Making Zatarains in a rice cooker

It has been a while since I’ve made Zatarains for dinner. I had made it in my rice cooker before, it was easy. I couldn’t remember how much water to use. A quick Google search did not turn up any good results. I was shocked.

I use the Zatarains that has the rice and beans in it already. I’ve made the jambalaya in this way as well.

Here it is for posterity’s sake:

Needs:

  • Zatarains
  • Rice cooker
  • Olive oil, 2 tbsp
  • Water, 1.75 cups

Optional:

  • Chopped vegetables
  • Sausage
  • Chicken

Put everything in your rice cooker and turn it on. Put the cover on. When the water starts to boil, remove cover and stir, then replace the cover. Stir twice more, at an interval.

If your rice cooker shuts off automatically like mine, you may need to turn it on again. When the rice and beans are at the desired slush factor, turn off the rice cooker.
